Career Goals
I have a gift and find great enjoyment in building systems.
The word systems, as used
here, is very broad. While it includes technological systems of both the
hardware and software variety, my real strength is in building the systems
that enable the production and maintenance of these systems.
In other words, while I have the capability to produce innovative, cutting-edge,
never-before-seen software and hardware systems, this is of limited use unless
there is an underlying
system to maintain, operate, and further the objectives of the system.
Additionally, there must be a system in place to foster adoption by and support
for the end users of such systems. Thus, a truly successful deployment of a
new technological system requires the building of a team of technology experts
through contract, employment or training, a known and predictable organization for
managing code and software updates, a firm documentation policy, a support or help-desk
infrastructure and possibly marketing and promotion assistance.
I am interested in pursuing a career that will challenge my intellect perpetually while helping
others achieve their goals. Nothing brings me more satisfaction than helping someone learn or
achieve something beyond their own expectations. I am a strong teacher (see teaching)
and leader who people generally find easy to follow. I believe that leadership is rooted in
service to others.
I am a strong and confident speaker that is very comfortable in front of both large
and small audiences. I am not shy and share my opinions and ideas freely. I will always
provide justification for my positions and believe that others should do the same. I am
a good writer and a great coder, but I just like people too much not to work with them
on a daily basis. While a day or two of uninterrupted coding time is fun (and necessary)
every now and then, doing it every day would be utter drudgery.
I believe that work should enhance and complement one's life, not be the focal-point of it.
If a synergy with one's work and life exists then it is not a burden to put in extra time
when needed or put in less time when not. I appreciate the flexibility to set my own schedule
and have yet to have any employer, customer or advisor express dissatifaction with the results.
My family is important to me and thus I would not consider more than 25% travel on any engagement.
